For many parents, raising a child comes with hopes, dreams, and expectations for the future. But for Missy, motherhood became something much deeper: a journey of learning, advocacy, patience, and unconditional love.
As the mother of Presley, a neurodivergent child, Missy has spent years navigating challenges that many families quietly face every day. Along the way, she discovered that parenting is not always about following the path people expect. Sometimes, it means learning how to celebrate the smallest victories, standing up for your child when others may not understand, and redefining what progress truly looks like.
“When Presley was younger, I noticed differences in communication, behaviors, and the way he processed situations compared to other children,” Missy shared. “As a parent, you often have instincts before you have answers.”
Like many parents in similar situations, the realization that her child needed additional support came with overwhelming emotions. There was confusion, fear, uncertainty, and grief for the expectations she once imagined. But over time, those emotions slowly transformed into determination.
“I realized my job wasn’t to change who Presley was,” she said. “It was to understand him better, support him, and help him succeed in ways meaningful to him.”

The journey was not easy. There were moments of doubt, exhaustion, and loneliness especially in a world where neurodivergent children and their families are often misunderstood.
But everything began to shift when Missy discovered Connection Across the Spectrum, a community dedicated to creating inclusive spaces and meaningful support for neurodivergent individuals and their families.
Searching for resources and people who truly understood their experiences, Missy found more than just an organization. She found a community.
“Finding people who ‘get it’ made a huge difference,” she explained.
Through Connection Across the Spectrum, Presley and his family gained access to support, encouragement, and understanding that helped them feel less alone. The organization became a safe space where growth was not measured only by major milestones, but also by confidence, connection, coping skills, and simply feeling accepted.
“Growth doesn’t always happen in huge leaps,” Missy said. “Sometimes it’s confidence, coping skills, connection, or feeling understood.”
Today, Missy continues to advocate not only for Presley but also for other families still searching for answers and support. Her message to parents facing similar journeys is simple but powerful: trust your instincts and never stop advocating for your child.
“Don’t be afraid to ask questions or seek new resources,” she shared. “And remember, you don’t have to do everything alone.”
Her story is a reminder that every child’s journey looks different, and that difference does not mean less meaningful.
Behind every neurodivergent child is often a parent learning to fight quietly, love deeply, and celebrate victories the world may never fully see.
Through love, understanding, and community, families like Missy’s continue proving that inclusion, acceptance, and support can change lives in ways that truly matter.
