World Migratory Bird Day at Bird Island

Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day 2026 with the Connection Crew during a special morning at beautiful Bird Island in Audubon Park!

This year's theme, "Every Bird Counts – Your Observations Matter," highlights how everyday bird sightings help scientists better understand and protect migratory birds and their habitats.

Bird Island (Ochsner Island) is one of New Orleans' most important urban bird habitats and is home to egrets, herons, cormorants, anhingas, ibis, and many other bird species. Designed especially for autistic and neurodivergent young adults, this inclusive outdoor experience combines birdwatching, nature exploration, and community connection in a welcoming environment.

During this experience, participants will:

• 🐦 Learn about migratory birds and Bird Island's unique ecosystem.

• 🔭 Practice birdwatching using binoculars and guided observation.

• 📱 Discover how bird sightings support citizen science and conservation.

• 🌿 Explore one of New Orleans' most beautiful natural spaces.

• 🤝 Connect with friends in a fun, inclusive outdoor setting.
